Matenadaran | is your museum home sample manuscripts and early translations, dedicated to Mesrop Mashtots who made the Armenian alphabet in 405 A.D.. Some interesting details to notice is that the alphabet:
- Initially had 36 letters (2 more letters were added much later to make the alphabet one of the most complete on earth),
- was made as a prayer with all the letters starting a word in the prayer (besides your letter “r” where the phrase ended inside)
The museum is located at the end of the main artery Mashtots Ave (also referred to as Prospect Ave through the soviet era). A statue is of Mesrop Mashtots in the building’s front.
